Microsoft says that users on macOS 10.11 or earlier will still be supported, but won’t gain the new updates. Microsoft has yet to announce when it will release Office 2019 for Mac other than in the “second half of 2018.” The updates are scheduled to release next month for Office 365 subscribers.
